Goal 1
No Poverty

1.2 Reduce at least by half the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty.
  • Providing after-school tutoring, caring and dinner to children of disadvantaged families from the three rural schools in Hsinchu County who were left unattended after school for 11 consecutive years, with sponsorship of more than NT$ 8.97 million, and the number of assisted students has reached 462.
  • The donations made by the employees to the Novatek Social Caring Fund have improved the quality of life and learning of nearly 400 students with physical and mental disabilities; successfully assisted 9 job applicants, and 5 of them successfully received the job training.

Goal 2
Zero Hunger

2.1 End hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations.
2.3 Double the agricultural productivity and incomes of small-scale food producers.
  • Support sustainable agricultural operations, promote connections between enterprises and local communities, and stabilize agricultural production and sales. The total amount purchased in 2020 was NT$ 1,976,900.
  • Organic vegetables from Grown-up with Hands Family were introduced by the Novatek Charity Club for sale, allowing employees to buy organic vegetables grown by the Grown-up with Hands Family every Wednesday afternoon. Combining with the Company subsidies and the Charity Coffee Fund, the total amount raised for selling the vegetables was NT$ 67,600.

  • Committed to promoting a healthy workplace, improving employees' independent health management, and reducing health risks; awarded the "Healthy Workplace Certification Mark" by the Health Promotion Administration, MOHW for 5 times in a row.
  • Provided Employee Assistance Program and free on-site psychological consulting services for 18 consecutive years, with a total of 2,099 services provided
  • In 2020, a total of 79 visits of physicians for on-site consultation services were conducted in the Company, with a total of 93 health consultation services offered to take care of the physical and mental health of our employees.
  • Providing detailed health examination for our employees every two years, which is better than that required by regulations; arranging various health checks and health promotion activities from time to time; promoting the visually impaired massage therapists to provide on-site massage services.
  • In 2020, a health management system was developed and established to integrate employees’ physical and health examination records, and conduct employee health risk analysis, trend management, and tracking of nursing and health education.
  • The User-friendly lactation room received certification from the Public Health Bureau, Hsinchu City in 2020.
  • Won the 2020 Corporate Health Responsibility Award, selected as the model enterprise in epidemic prevention.
  • Assisted 106 children with developmental delay and physical and mental disabilities in early treatment and 109 economically disadvantaged patients with cleft lip and palate for surgical treatment.
  • "Office chairs for pregnant women, special parking spaces for pregnant women, and full subsidy for commuting to work/home from work" were planned for maternal employees. Health care interviews were conducted for maternal employees to provide maternal health protection consulting services.

Goal 4
Quality Education

4.4 Increase technical and vocational skills for employment
4.5 Eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable

4.a Build and upgrade education facilities
  • Awarded 45 outstanding Ph.D and master's students, with a grant amount of more than NT$ 4.9 million; sponsored more than NT$ 45.86 million to cultivate 213 outstanding talents for 11 consecutive years.
  • Long-term promotion of reading education programs and summer story camps in rural elementary schools in Yunlin and Hualien.
  • Employees of Novatek make donations to the Novatek Social Caring Fund to support local book donations, donation of learning aids for the Visually Impaired Association, as well as the education foundation for underprivileged school, offering assistance to nearly 4,200 economically disadvantaged and school children in rural areas.
  • Cultivating young students in the past 5 years by investing a total of NT$ 73.48 million in industry-university collaboration, and sponsorship of NT$ 4.85 million has been provided to schools.
  • Novatek sponsored outstanding sports talents for 14 consecutive years, especially for the sponsorship of Ya-Ting Tan and Shi-Jia Lin from the national archery team who won the bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympic. Novatek received the "Sports Promoter Award--Long-term Sponsorship Award" issued by the Sports Administration, MOE for two consecutive years.
  • Promoting volunteer services to accompany disadvantaged students for 11 consecutive years; Novatek was awarded the "Excellent Utilization Unit for Volunteer Service in Education" by the Youth Development Administration, MOE for 4 consecutive years, providing a total of 171 sessions of services and benefiting 2,436 students.

Goal 5
Gender Equality

5.5 Ensure women's full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making

5.c Promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels
  • In 2020, the number of female employees was 15.25%, which is higher than the average percentage of female graduates (13%) in the Departments of Electronics, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Information Engineering in Taiwan. Novatek has continued to recruit outstanding female R&D talents in recent years.
  • Novatek's employee compensation system is designed on the basis of job category and job performance, and there is no difference in treatment due to gender and work location.
  • Novatek sponsored outstanding sports talents for 14 consecutive years, especially for the sponsorship of Ya-Ting Tan and Shi-Jia Lin from the national archery team who won the bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympic.   • Novatek has been adhering to the principle of local procurement for a long time, placing orders in Taiwan for more than NT$ 35 billion, and working closely with Taiwan's local suppliers to create Taiwan's supply chain value.
  • Novatek received the Hsinchu Science Park R&D Achievement Award in 2020.
  • Novatek employed 15 people with disabilities in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Follow RBA regulations, prohibit the use of child labor and protect labor rights.
  • Continue to promote the occupational safety and health management system.
  • The revenue and profit in 2020 set a record high, reaching NT$ 79.956 billion and NT$ 11.817 billion, respectively.

Goal 9
Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

  • R&D expenditures continued to increase, reaching a record high of NT$ 10,994 billion.
  • The Company had 1994 R&D personnel, accounting for 82.43% of the total employees.
  • Awarded 45 outstanding Ph.D and master's students, with a grant amount of more than NT$ 4.9 million; sponsored more than NT$ 45.86 million to cultivate 213 outstanding talents for 11 consecutive years.

Goal 10
Reduced Inequalities

10.3 Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices
10.4 Adopt policies, especially fiscal, wage and social protection policies, and progressively achieve greater equality
  • Job applicants are treated equally; applicants' personal data shall be protected in accordance with relevant laws and regulations and discrimination shall be avoided.
  • Reading education in rural areas has been promoted for many years to reduce the inequality of domestic educational resources.
  • Promoting support for disadvantaged students and provide volunteer services for disadvantaged students to ensure education opportunities for students and eliminate the differences in social and economic education resources.

Goal 12
Responsible Consumption and Production

12.2 Achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources
12.5 Substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse
12.a Develop towards more sustainable patterns of consumption and production
  • Formulated and implemented environmental safety and health policies.
  • Established a green product management system; Novatek's products are 100% compliant with RoHS, halogen-free and REACH requirements.
  • 100% of major suppliers have obtained ISO 14001 environmental management system certification.
  • The power saving ratio reached 9.6%, and the power saving benefit increased by 1.76% compared to last year.
  • Reduced the energy consumption of main products by 5%; based on the shipment volume of main products in 2020, the reduction in energy consumption of the chips for their use in end products is equivalent to the reduction in carbon emission that can be absorption by 30 Daan Parks.

Goal 13
Climate Action

13.3 Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning
  • The major suppliers were required to establish emergency response plan. Through the self-assessment of sustainability risk survey, the results indicated that all suppliers have completed the emergency response plan.
  • Continue to conduct inventory and management of greenhouse gas emissions, actively promote greenhouse gas emission reduction measures, and promote energy-saving programs.
  • Promotion on energy saving, water saving and waste reduction is carried out regularly in the plants to implement resource conservation.

Goal 15
Life on Land

15.4 Ensure the conservation of mountain ecosystems, including their biodiversity, in order to enhance their capacity to provide benefits that are essential for sustainable development
  • Novatek has donated a total of NT$ 7 million to maintain the trails in Yushan National Park for 14 consecutive years, and has been committed to the ecological maintenance and sustainable conservation of Taiwan's alpine forests for a long time.
  • Organized voluntary work of accompanying visually-impaired students on countryside exploration. Every year, 6~8 sessions of volunteer activities will be organized to enable visually impaired students to gain knowledge on ecological environment conservation.
  • Collaborated with Yunlin Story House to organize 2 sessions of "Environmental Ecological and Humanistic Story Camp" for disadvantaged students to convey the concept of environmental and ecological conservation.

Goal 17
Partnerships for the Goals

17.16 Enhance the global partnership for sustainable development
  • The supply chain is required to comply with the RBA specifications and sign the "Novatek Sustainability Policy Statement". Through sustainable risk assessment, the compliance of the supply chain was evaluated, encouraging the suppliers to obtain international standard certification.
